"Home" cutting board for Creative Artiste

Hello friends! My daughter picked up a couple cute wooden cutting boards at Dollarama and asked me if I thought I could use them for some sort of project, and I was definitely intrigued by the thought; it's always interesting to find new backgrounds for my assemblage creations!

Because I didn't want to colour the entire piece, I glued my arrangement onto a piece of thin cardboard rather than directly onto the board. I then painted that with tan acrylic paint before adding mists in shades of teal, green, yellow and gold. (I also used these steps on the letters and hexagons so they would coordinate) then rubbed Art Alchemy metallique waxed in Lucky Emerald and Polished Brass over some of the surfaces.

I used DecoArte moss paste here and there along the edges, then rubbed with the same waxes. A little gold thread wrapped diagonally and an ornate leaf chippie from my stash completed the look.

I love to use dollar store items or thrift store finds as bases for my creations; I see them as a fun challenge, and I hope you enjoy seeing them.Thanks so much for stopping by and I wish you a wonderful March!!

Altered Tool Box for Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge Blog

Hello there crafty friends! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and are settling into 2020.I have had this project in mind for a while but it wasn't easy to find a metal toolbox-everything is plastic nowadays! My hubby found this beauty for me while he was out and about. While getting ready to move, I amassed a fair collection of my own tools which I kept separate from hubby's stuff, and the idea of a funky toolbox of my own was born.

I started out with black satin spray paint; it really is a true black, but the weather has not cooperated  and the lighting in my photos seems to give a golden hue.

This was "before"....

I attached the embellishments with Gorilla Glue, which I had never used before...they really do mean it when they say on the package that the product expands when drying-be careful not to use too much or you will have chunky bits here and there...ugh! That being said, it did a wonderful job adhering lace, metal, chipboard and plastic items to the metal toolbox.

I then sprayed another coat of black over the entire surface before adding the Art Alchemy waxes. I used Brushed Iron, Rich Copper and Lucky Emerald. There were a few spots where I used some distress embossing powder in Vintage Photo before adding the wax, just for a little rough texture here and there.

This was so fun to create and I love how it came out; the waxes blended beautifully together to create a really interesting effect. They work so wonderfully on black surfaces....love them! Hope you enjoyed seeing my latest....have a terrific February!

Sympathy Card with Craft O'clock papers

A dear friend of mine lost her brother recently, and I wasn't able to get together and share condolences in person, so I wanted to make a special card for her. These beautiful papers from Craft O'Clock were perfect with their soft colours and lovely flowers that I could fussy cut and pop up for dimension. I inked everything with olive green to add a bit of interest and contrast, and used dies from my stash for the cross, foliage, and sentiment. The sentiment originally had a box around it, but it looked to big and bulky on the card so I trimmed it off. I cut a little deeper between some of the flower petals so I could lift and curl them just a little for added dimension.

As you can see, I kept the design fairly simple, as the elements themselves had plenty of detail. Unfortunately I had already mailed it when I realized the photo was less than wonderful, so please forgive the uneven lighting and shadows. More magnetic mini canvases

Hi there, friends! A while back I made some mini canvases for Creative Artiste, and I brought them to the Art and Heirloom Shoppe in Chatham where I display mixed media pieces to sell. (I don't have room in my house to keep everything! LOL) They sold quickly and the owner asked if I had any more, so I pulled out some supplies and created these:

These were so much fun to create, coming up with saying to use for some of the images and using lots of random bits from my stash.

Christmas trinket box and rosette tree/Home for the Holidays Blog Hop

Hello there hoppers! Lynne here with a little display made up of a trinket box I made using  the Gypsy Soul Lasercuts Treasure Chest and Studio75's Christmas Gift paper set. I was privileged to be invited to participate in this blog hop, and I know there'll be a lot of awesome projects for you to see along the way! Have fun!

I love to fussy-cut, so after I covered the chipboard pieces with patterned paper, I added cutout images for interest and dimension . The berries and little latch were from my stash.

I made a loop bow out of strips of paper for the top, inked the edges and added some tulle. I then topped it off with a bird image cut from the paper.

I purchased a tree made with rosette folds somewhere over the summer and used it as a pattern for this one, folding an 18" long piece that was about 2-1/2' wide for the bottom layer, then getting a little smaller for the two other ones/ I used a holly border punch before folding them They were glued to a skewer, then into a thread spool which I also covered with paper. A chunky gold bead and a white plastic snowflake finished it off.

I like soft colours, even at Christmas, so this project with these papers was perfect for me, and was a lot of fun to put together. I hope you enjoyed seeing it and maybe even found a little inspiration here....wishing you a wonderful Christmas season xx

It's Oddly Appealing

Olde World Christmas triptych for Creative Artiste

Hello there crafters and happy December to you! 'Tis the season, for sure, (although I'm really, really behind on everything this year!) and I wanted to create something with a warm Christmas feel to it. I remembered having some gorgeous vintage Christmas cut-aparts  in my stash,
and these old-fashioned Santas were the perfect size to fit into my triptych panels.

The piece itself is a Gypsy Soul Lasercuts item, the Arabian triptych. I primed it in white, then added clear DecoArt Crackle Glaze, then rubbed FolkArt antiquing medium over it to create a vintage effect and make the cracks stand out more.

When the pieces were put togethet, I chose chipboard, wood and diecut items to embellish the tops of each frame. These pieces were heat embossed with Pebbled Copper; sorry but I don;t know the manufacturer, as I received them in small unlabeled containers, bearing just the name of the colour. Again I added a little rub of antiquing medium.

This was a fairly simple project to put together but I do like the vintage feel of the finished project and I hope you do too. Magnetic canvas trio for Creative Artiste

Hello crafters! Hope all is well in your world; thanks so much for stopping by! I found some cool 6x6 magnetic canvases at Dollarama and thought they'd make great fridge art. I found some images and sayings that I liked together and then had fun embellishing, misting and waxing them.

 Although I referred to them as a trio, I did not create them to be a set, as the themes are all very different!

 

After I decided on the placement of the words, burlap/fabric, drywall tape and images, I stencilled here and there with texture paste, then attached the other elements I wanted to mist over and followed that with a coat of gesso over the whole thing. When that was dry, I adhered the words and images and any embellishments I wanted to use in their natural state (ie the broom, flowers, cloud etc)

Love the gypsy image from 7Gypsies "Gypsy Moments" paper, and that flourished stencil is one of my favourites!

I had some "Wizard of Oz" themed papers and absolutely could NOT resist using this fun combination of words and images!

I think we all have days when we feel like this; I know I've had several of them lately!

These were so much fun to do; small canvases seem to come together so easily! The store had other shapes as well-I remember heart and flower shapes, and just may have to grab some more! So glad you stopped by, and I wish you a colourful and creative November xoxo
