More magnetic mini canvases

Hi there, friends! A while back I made some mini canvases for Creative Artiste, and I brought them to the Art and Heirloom Shoppe in Chatham where I display mixed media pieces to sell. (I don't have room in my house to keep everything! LOL) They sold quickly and the owner asked if I had any more, so I pulled out some supplies and created these:

These were so much fun to create, coming up with saying to use for some of the images and using lots of random bits from my stash.

Christmas trinket box and rosette tree/Home for the Holidays Blog Hop

Hello there hoppers! Lynne here with a little display made up of a trinket box I made using  the Gypsy Soul Lasercuts Treasure Chest and Studio75's Christmas Gift paper set. I was privileged to be invited to participate in this blog hop, and I know there'll be a lot of awesome projects for you to see along the way! Have fun!

I love to fussy-cut, so after I covered the chipboard pieces with patterned paper, I added cutout images for interest and dimension . The berries and little latch were from my stash.

I made a loop bow out of strips of paper for the top, inked the edges and added some tulle. I then topped it off with a bird image cut from the paper.

I purchased a tree made with rosette folds somewhere over the summer and used it as a pattern for this one, folding an 18" long piece that was about 2-1/2' wide for the bottom layer, then getting a little smaller for the two other ones/ I used a holly border punch before folding them They were glued to a skewer, then into a thread spool which I also covered with paper. A chunky gold bead and a white plastic snowflake finished it off.

I like soft colours, even at Christmas, so this project with these papers was perfect for me, and was a lot of fun to put together. I hope you enjoyed seeing it and maybe even found a little inspiration here....wishing you a wonderful Christmas season xx

Olde World Christmas triptych for Creative Artiste

Hello there crafters and happy December to you! 'Tis the season, for sure, (although I'm really, really behind on everything this year!) and I wanted to create something with a warm Christmas feel to it. I remembered having some gorgeous vintage Christmas cut-aparts  in my stash,
and these old-fashioned Santas were the perfect size to fit into my triptych panels.

The piece itself is a Gypsy Soul Lasercuts item, the Arabian triptych. I primed it in white, then added clear DecoArt Crackle Glaze, then rubbed FolkArt antiquing medium over it to create a vintage effect and make the cracks stand out more.

When the pieces were put togethet, I chose chipboard, wood and diecut items to embellish the tops of each frame. These pieces were heat embossed with Pebbled Copper; sorry but I don;t know the manufacturer, as I received them in small unlabeled containers, bearing just the name of the colour. Again I added a little rub of antiquing medium.

This was a fairly simple project to put together but I do like the vintage feel of the finished project and I hope you do too. Magnetic canvas trio for Creative Artiste

Hello crafters! Hope all is well in your world; thanks so much for stopping by! I found some cool 6x6 magnetic canvases at Dollarama and thought they'd make great fridge art. I found some images and sayings that I liked together and then had fun embellishing, misting and waxing them.

 Although I referred to them as a trio, I did not create them to be a set, as the themes are all very different!

 

After I decided on the placement of the words, burlap/fabric, drywall tape and images, I stencilled here and there with texture paste, then attached the other elements I wanted to mist over and followed that with a coat of gesso over the whole thing. When that was dry, I adhered the words and images and any embellishments I wanted to use in their natural state (ie the broom, flowers, cloud etc)

Love the gypsy image from 7Gypsies "Gypsy Moments" paper, and that flourished stencil is one of my favourites!

I had some "Wizard of Oz" themed papers and absolutely could NOT resist using this fun combination of words and images!

I think we all have days when we feel like this; I know I've had several of them lately!

These were so much fun to do; small canvases seem to come together so easily! The store had other shapes as well-I remember heart and flower shapes, and just may have to grab some more! So glad you stopped by, and I wish you a colourful and creative November xoxo

Sewing box for Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge Blog

Hello crafty friends! While I'm definitely no expert seamstress, I enjoy sewing now and then, usually making home decor or Christmas items. In the other house, I had a HUGE desk where all my sewing supplies could be easily stored, but I have a little less drawer space now (a LOT less, actually!) so I decided to take a hexagonal hatbox I had in my stash and convert it to a sewing themed storage box.

I had a 7Gypsies  "Gypsy Seamstress" paper pad that I'd been itching to use, and it was perfect for this project. I simply cut 6" strips of one of the papers and wrapped it around the outside, overlapping as needed to make neat seams. I cut out several of the images, which included faux button packages (to which I added real buttons) and lightly distressed and inked the edges of those before attaching and layering them on the six panels of the box.

I had some canvas trim and a canvas flower, both natural coloured, so I misted them lightly with a variety of Tattered Angels mists to coordinate with the colours in the papers I had used. There was a sheet of the paper with tape measure/ruler images all over it, so I cut out several of those, whitewashed them with DecoArt Vintage Effects Wash in white to soften the colours a bit. I looped them and glued the ends with hot glue, then attached them under the flower and between the layers to create a bow design, adding mini spools of thread and some pearl-head hatpins , as well as some gathered white tulle.

This was a fun and simple project to put together, and I'm happy to have a decorative place to store my sewing supplies!

"Make pretty things"-altered storage cubes for Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge Blog

Hello there, fellow creative souls! I'm excited to have a brand new scraproom, and I've been having such a great time getting it ready! I had a cute little white shelf, but the things I needed to store on it weren't exactly pretty to look at and would have ended up being a cluttered mess, so I create this instead:

I started off with 11" cubes from the Dollar Tree, and chose the lightest coloured ones as I figured they'd be the easiest to cover.

I brushed the whole front with white gesso, then arranged chipboard, flowers, lace, buttons etc until I was happy with the effect, then glued them all on and covered it all with white gesso (if you put a coat on the blank surface first, you won't get unwelcome glimpses of the original colour peeking through)

I then misted with a variety of pastel mists, adding more after the first coat dried until I reached the intensity of colour I desired.

This was a fun project to put together and I love how well it coordinates with the rest of the decor in the room! I will be posting pics of my finished room soon-as soon as I find places for the last couple boxes of "this and that!"

"Pawprints" frame for Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge blog

Hey there, friends! I had this plain chipboard frame in my stash and decided it would be perfect to use for  a furbaby project-I just love the sentiment "pawprints on my heart"; it and the other chipboard embellishments are from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.

I stencilled randomly with homemade texture paste, then added the  chipboard and other embellishments  before priming the whole thing with white gesso.
I then misted with a variety of Tattered Angels mists, then I rubbed the chipboard pieces with Rose Gold Metallique Wax.

The photo in the frame is of our two dogs, Dudley and Elmo, who have since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. This photo was taken over twenty years ago, but their pawprints definitely remain on the hearts of my family.
